Do not smoke. Smokers should stop as quickly as possible and not smoke in the presence of others.
Moderate your consumption of beers, wines and spirits.
Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight, especially children.
Follow health and safety instructions at work concerning production, handling or using any substance that might cause cancer.
Avoid becoming overweight and limit your intake of saturated fatty foods and salt.
Take regular exercise.
Eat fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals with high fibre content frequently.
Eat oily fish twice per week, eg Mackerel, Herring, Sardines or Salmon.
See your GP if you have a persistent cough, persistent hoarseness, a change of bowel movement habits or an unexplained weight loss.
Women should have a cervical smear at least once every three years.
Women should be breast aware and if possible have a mammography regularly if they are older than 50 years.
Ensure you and your children are fully vaccinated.
Be safety conscious at all times, so as to reduce avoidable accidents.
Always wear your seat belts in the car - both in front and rear.
Dispose of all unwanted medicines (by taking them to your local chemist).
Fit a smoke detector in your home (and check it regularly).
